A) PoE external unit to Datalogger ECOLOG LP4
If the LAN network offers the possibility for PoE supply to the device, then a PoE splitter device has to be attached externally to the datalogger. Possible power source: PoE Injectors or LAN Switch with PoE power output. Before use: Check compatibility of PoE Supply with Splitter unit.

B) PoE internal device in Datalogger ECOLOG LP4
P. No. 2730-A: Mounting set PoE-splitter for Ecolog-Net, (to be mounted at an Elpro Service center)
If the LAN network offers the possibility for PoE supply to the device, then an ECOLOG Net logger with built in splitter device is required. Possible power source: PoE Injector or LAN Switch with PoE power output. Before use: Check compatibility of PoE Supply with built in splitter unit.

For the ELPRO internal POE device the following wiring is required: Power on Spare Wire
There are 4 different twisted pair cable. All cables are used in twisted pair as: PRx = Wire Pair
This corresponds to
- EIA (TIA) 568B, AT&T 258A, WECO
- EIA (TIA) 568A (with PR2 / PR3 interchanged)

D) Recommended Switches / Injectors
Do not use injectors with power over the data wires: The following three types do work and are recommended (February 2005):
1. NORTEL: Type: PoE Switch; Switch and Injector as one unit - BayStack 460-24T-PWR Switch - 24 Ports - Input Power: 100-240Vac (110V / 230V UPS System may be added) - Power on spare wires (pins 4,5 / 7,8) or as Phantom Power (pins 1,2 / 3,6), configurable, default: Power on spare wire
2. 3COM: Type: Multiport-Injector (Midspan Solution only); Needs additional Switch - 3CNJPSE24 - 24 Ports - Input Power: 88-264Vac, 48Vdc (Optimal for 48VDC battery backup system) - Power on spare wires (pins 4,5 / 7,8)
3. CISCO: Type: Multiport-Injector (Midspan Solution only); Needs additional Switch - WS-PWR-PANEL; Catalyst Inline Power Patch Panel - 48 Ports - Input Power: 88-264Vac (110V / 230V UPS System may be added) - Power on spare wires (pins 4,5 / 7,8)
